Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in supporting the physician and/or physician assistant by delivering basic nursing care, performing laboratory procedures and tests, participating in patient and family education, facilitating communication, and contributing to clinical decision-making. Day-to-day supervision is provided by the Nurse Manager, Program Coordinator, Operations Manager, Practice Administrator, and/or Laboratory Director, with clinical oversight from the Director of Nursing.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver safe, accurate, and clinically competent direct nursing care to patients and their families.

Monitor patient wait times in the waiting area and communicate updates to front office staff or directly to patients, offering options to wait, reschedule, or see an alternative provider as needed.

Recognize and assess patients’ symptoms or urgent issues, promptly seeking assistance and implementing remedial measures as directed.

Assist patients in completing thorough histories and physical forms during new patient visits.

Accurately document nursing assessments, symptoms, and patient concerns in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Prepare exam rooms and equipment; assist providers during medical procedures such as ear irrigation, pelvic exams, minor surgeries, dressings, injections, and EKGs, ensuring clear instructions are given to patients.

Identify patient and family education needs related to diagnosis or prevention, provide instruction or referrals as ordered, and document all education in the EMR.

Administer medications as per provider orders, documenting details including time, site, dosage, and route in the EMR.

Triage incoming patient calls, documenting actions and communications appropriately in the EMR and/or with providers.

Advocate for patients by ensuring their rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality are upheld in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Administer pediatric and adult immunizations according to schedule and provider direction, documenting in the EMR and pediatric immunization registry (GRITS). Monitor immunization inventory and reorder supplies as needed.

Perform phlebotomy and waived laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols, ensuring proper specimen handling and labeling.

Notify providers regarding medication reviews for prescription refills.

Explain Medicare Waiver of Liability forms thoroughly when services may not be covered, ensuring forms are signed and documented.

Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, and stocking of equipment and exam rooms; manage supply orders and report equipment malfunctions.

Handle hazardous waste collection and disposal daily.

Maintain patient education materials in exam and stock rooms as recommended.

Utilize the TIGER system for patient scheduling and demographic management.

Process provider-directed referrals and track appointments, providing timely updates to providers.

Document all patient communications and ensure patients receive timely follow-up calls.

Comply with Georgia law by notifying patients of lab results within 14 days of provider receipt via Televox Labcall, telephone, or written communication, documenting notifications in the EMR.

Participate in meetings, in-service training, and skills fairs as required.

Provide coverage across clinic sites as needed.

Support agency goals by facilitating timely patient access to providers and identifying barriers for resolution.

Demonstrate age-specific nursing competencies evaluated through direct observation, quality improvement processes, and feedback.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Efficiently use computers, data books, and cordless phones to enhance workflow and communication.
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.

Current Georgia LPN license.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Computer literacy is beneficial.

Minimum of one year nursing experience preferred.
