About Pictor Labs

Pictor Labs is the world’s leading virtual staining company, transforming digital pathology with breakthrough AI-powered technology. Our innovations deliver diagnostic-quality results in minutes while preserving tissue samples for deeper analysis.

With our proprietary DeepStain™ and ReStain™ platforms, laboratories can perform unlimited virtual staining from a single sample—eliminating the inefficiencies of traditional chemical staining. This accelerates research, drives clinical adoption, reduces chemical waste, and expands diagnostic capabilities.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a Machine Learning Scientist to own the representation learning and generative modeling stack behind Pictor’s virtual staining. You’ll design and deploy scalable, production-ready models that seamlessly integrate into clinical workflows and redefine pathology worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead self-supervised learning (SSL) pretraining for high-dimensional image representations.

  • Advance image-to-image translation with focus on calibration, uncertainty, and reliability.

  • Build embedding-based similarity, retrieval, and QA pipelines.

  • Develop robust QC systems to detect batch effects and domain shifts.

  • Productionize models with scalable training, automated evaluation, and monitored inference.

  • Collaborate with pathologists, product managers, and engineers to deliver research into clinical-ready workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in representation learning (contrastive, masked, teacher-student methods).

  • Hands-on experience with generative modeling and image-to-image translation.

  • Knowledge of distributed training, large-scale optimization, and data pipelines.

  • Proficiency in evaluation science: calibration, uncertainty, error analysis.

  • Background in data-centric ML: dataset curation, augmentation, reproducibility.

  • Solid grounding in MLOps: reproducibility, automation, versioning, monitoring.

  • Skilled in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow).

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Why Join Pictor Labs?

At Pictor Labs, you’ll be at the forefront of digital pathology innovation, pushing the boundaries of medical AI. We offer a collaborative, mission-driven environment where your work directly impacts healthcare outcomes worldwide.
