The Opportunity
We are looking for a Legal Project Manager to join the Business Finance team at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer. In this role, you’ll support and lead the delivery of large, complex, and multi-jurisdictional matters through structured legal project management, effective budgeting, and innovative use of legal technology.
Primary Responsibilities
General Project Management

Support the delivery of structured LPM for large or multi-jurisdictional engagements.

Manage your own client matters or support Senior LPMs on high-impact cases.

Assist with project scoping, timelines, budget tracking, and progress reporting.

Act as a main contact for internal partners and/or clients to manage scope, change, and risk.

Maintain project documentation and audit trails.

Contribute to creative LPM solutions using firm technology and resource deployment.
Financial Management

Design and implement matter budgets and fee structures.

Track financial performance and provide updates to stakeholders.
-
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely billing.

Promote financial discipline and awareness across matters.
People Responsibilities

Manage junior LPM team members; review output and provide feedback.

Set performance goals and monitor development.

Share knowledge, lead training sessions, and present demos on LPM tools/processes.
Technology & Process Improvement

Leverage LPM tools to implement solutions for legal teams.

Build and deliver performance metrics, reports, and trend analysis.

Prepare case studies and pitch materials for client opportunities and internal debriefs.

Contribute to internal and client-facing projects as needed.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential
General:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent.

5+ years post-degree experience in a law or professional services firm.

Strong time management, resilience, and ability to handle pressure.
Project:

High attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas simply.

Organized and able to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
Financial:

Numerate, with the ability to interpret financial data.

Understanding of law firm KPIs, financial systems, and pricing models.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
People:
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all seniority levels.

Ability to work both independently and in a team.

Skilled in delivering training and facilitating learning.
Technical:

Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PowerBI, and SharePoint.

Fast learner with new systems and legal tech.
Desirable

Degree or professional qualification in Law, Finance, Management, or Business.

Legal qualification and/or end-to-end matter management experience.

Experience with financial practice systems (e.g. Elite, Aderant).

Proficiency in Power Automate and advanced PowerBI reporting.

Familiarity with legal tech platforms (automation, AI, collaboration tools).

Deep understanding of law firm economics.
