  • Federal and State Transaction Tax Compliance:
    Oversee the preparation and submission of transaction tax returns, including sales, use, gross receipts, and highway use tax filings across multiple jurisdictions. Responsibilities include developing compliance policies and procedures, calculating quarterly federal and state tax installments, and preparing supporting schedules and informational returns. Provide authoritative determinations on audit adjustments and may be required to testify in legal proceedings.

  • Financial and Regulatory Accounting:
    Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of transaction taxes for internal, external (SEC), and regulatory purposes. Maintain compliance with normalization rules and proper treatment of tax-related items in rate cases and other regulatory matters.

  • Tax Planning and Research:
    Conduct both short- and long-term tax planning to optimize tax positions. Research current and emerging tax issues to ensure compliance and support tax strategy development.


Core Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance:
    Lead the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns, gross earnings tax, and property tax filings across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Monitor legislative updates, ensure timely filings, and maintain compliance with all relevant tax laws and reporting requirements.

  • Audit Management:
    Manage audits related to sales, use, and property taxes, including gathering and submitting documentation, addressing auditor inquiries, and negotiating settlements. Provide expert support for appeals and legal proceedings.

  • Research and Advisory:
    Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues, particularly in the areas of sales, use, gross earnings, and property taxes. Offer strategic guidance and interpretations to internal stakeholders and remain informed on legislative changes.


Required Qualifications

  • Technical Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of tax law, financial accounting, SEC, and regulatory compliance requirements.

    • Ability to monitor and adapt to legislative and regulatory changes.

    • Expertise in developing and implementing efficient tax and accounting policies and systems.

    • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and training abilities.

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline required.

    • Master’s degree in Taxation is strongly preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax accounting, preferably with a focus on multi-jurisdictional compliance and regulatory environments.

  • Licenses/Certifications:

    • None required.
