Position Overview:
Join the dedicated team at University of Michigan Health – Sparrow as a Medical Assistant. In this vital role, you’ll ensure smooth and efficient patient care by managing both clinical and clerical responsibilities in a fast-paced urgent care or clinic setting. You’ll work under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider, delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepare patients for exams, obtain vital signs, and record chief complaints

Perform routine lab tests and diagnostic procedures
-
Answer and triage phone calls, take accurate messages, and direct them accordingly

Schedule referrals and diagnostic testing appointments
-
Administer medications (oral/injectable) and manage prescriptions
-
Educate and support patients and their families as part of the care process
-
Work gaps in care registries to help improve care outcomes
-
Monitor and maintain logs (e.g., temperature checks, oxygen, medications)
-
Maintain clean and safe clinical environments and equipment
-
Manage inventory, order supplies, and restock rooms as needed

Float to all Urgent Care/Fast Care locations based on need

Flex between front office and clinical tasks as required
Qualifications:
Required:
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (including externship)
-
OR 5 years of clinical Medical Assistant experience at Sparrow
-
Preferred:
-
MA Certification
-
Prior experience in a medical office or urgent care
-
Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
-
Relevant specialty clinic experience
-
Previous Urgent Care experience
Skills & Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-
Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment

Comfortable working with patients of all ages and diverse backgrounds

Visual and auditory ability to monitor patient conditions and operate medical equipment
-
Willingness to float to multiple urgent care locations and provide weekend coverage as needed
Additional Work Requirements:
-
Full-time (0.9 FTE) and part-time (0.6 FTE) staff must work 3 weekend shifts per month
-
Part-time (0.3 FTE) must work 2 weekend shifts per month
-
Per diem staff must work 1 (12-hour) shift per month
