Job Description

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity to become a Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, you will provide essential support to pregnant individuals and their families to quit smoking, contributing to efforts aimed at reducing smoking rates and improving health outcomes in our community. Working closely with the Lead Midwife for Tobacco Dependence, you will promote a Smoke-Free Pregnancy in line with national guidelines. The Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor will offer advice through both face-to-face and telephone interactions, using a flexible and supportive approach to help individuals make positive changes.

Key Responsibilities of the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor

  • Deliver smoking cessation advice and support to pregnant individuals and their families.

  • Collaborate with the Lead Midwife for Tobacco Dependence to ensure high-quality service delivery.

  • Promote Smoke-Free Pregnancy initiatives in both hospital and community settings.

  • Use excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage service users and motivate behavior change.

The Role of the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor

  • Provide individualized, practical smoking cessation support to pregnant women and families.

  • Help tackle health inequalities by engaging with diverse communities.

  • Contribute to the collection and reporting of Smokefree Pregnancy data to track progress.

  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet the needs of the service and clients.

Person Specification for Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Experience in smoking cessation or health promotion is desirable.

  • Ability to engage and motivate individuals to make behavioral changes.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in health promotion or smoking cessation (desirable but not essential).

  • Previous experience in a health or community-based advisory role would be an advantage.
