Job Details:
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to perform a wide range of general and preventative maintenance on hospital facilities and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related systems. This role also supports new construction and renovation projects, troubleshooting, and providing leadership for assigned teams. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, proven hands-on experience, and a journeyman license in the relevant trade.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Contribute to departmental goals by adhering to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards, as well as governmental and accreditation regulations.

Lead and mentor maintenance staff by conducting training sessions and on-the-job instruction.

Maintain accurate records of time and materials for yourself and assigned teams, and ensure timely submission.

Keep required tools on hand to complete maintenance work efficiently.

Build and maintain relationships with vendors related to maintenance and renovation projects.

Oversee teams of mechanics in completing building maintenance and renovation work.

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance for plumbing, electrical systems, chlorine systems, fire extinguishers, oxygen and vacuum systems, grounds, laundry, elevators, and other hospital systems.

Provide backup maintenance support for assigned zones and complete repair orders as necessary.

Troubleshoot malfunctions and failures, determine necessary repairs, and initiate work orders.

Read and work from blueprints, schematics, and sketches to complete detailed projects.

Participate in meetings, committees, and service improvement teams while representing the department and hospital.
Trade-Specific Duties:

HVAC/R: Diagnose, repair, and install heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including electrical and pneumatic controls. Troubleshoot and maintain the hospital’s DDC building automation system. Maintain OEM specifications and HVAC/R parts inventory. Provide training to less experienced staff.

Plumbing: Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, medical gas lines, steam systems, pumps, valves, traps, and backflow preventers. Provide cost estimates for renovation projects. Perform asbestos removal and equipment overhauls as required.

Electrical: Diagnose, install, and maintain low- and high-voltage systems including fire alarms, nurse call systems, communication systems, generators, and lighting. Repair and test electrical circuits, operate high-voltage switchgear, and ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of formal training in a relevant trade required.

Experience: 3–4 years of related maintenance experience required.

Licenses/Certifications:

Journeyman License (required in the relevant trade area).

Electrician: Journeyman Electrician license preferred.

HVAC/R: Maryland State HVAC/R Journeyman License and CFC Universal Certification required.

Plumber: Journeyman Plumbing License required; Master Plumber License preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Basic math proficiency, including fractions.

Basic computer skills preferred.
Compensation:
Hiring range: $28.20 – $47.30 per hour (depending on experience, certification, and trade).
