Job Summary
MedStar Health is seeking a Mechanic Journeyman to join our facilities team at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
The Mechanic Journeyman will perform a variety of general and preventive maintenance tasks across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related hospital systems. This includes equipment repair, system troubleshooting, and support for new construction and renovation projects.

Primary Duties

Diagnose, repair, and install systems using blueprints, codes, and industry standards.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC/R systems, controls, and piping.

Troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems including medical gas lines, traps, valves, and pumps.

Maintain and repair electrical systems, including low- and high-voltage circuits, lighting, alarms, and switchgear.

Learn, operate, and troubleshoot computerized DDC building automation systems.

Train and mentor less experienced staff.

Complete PM compliance documentation through CMMS/iPad system.

Assist other trades (plumbing, carpentry, electrical) as needed.

Maintain proper inventory of replacement parts and supplies.

Perform asbestos removal and equipment overhauls as required.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Completion of an acceptable trade training program.

3–4 years of related experience.

Demonstrated competency in multiple trade areas.

Required/Preferred Certifications:
-
CFC Universal Certification.
-
Maryland State HVAC/R Journeyman’s License (if HVACR role).

Journeyman Plumber License (required if plumbing focus).

Master Plumber License (preferred).
-
Journeyman Electrician License (preferred if electrical focus).
-
Additional certifications in mechanical, process controls, carpentry, or engine repair a plus.
