About Coco

At Coco, we are reinventing the last-mile delivery experience through advanced robotic technology. We believe that the current delivery landscape significantly under-serves local merchants, and we are committed to building a sustainable, reliable, and frictionless delivery system for merchants and their customers.

Coco is a venture-backed Series A startup, operating hundreds of delivery robots that serve thousands of customers weekly around the world. We foster a fast-paced, collaborative, and high-energy environment, with our headquarters located in Venice, CA.

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing robotic delivery vehicles and related components. You will own projects from concept through production, working cross-functionally with product managers, software and electrical engineers, operations, and external partners.

Your contributions will be hands-on and end-to-end, shaping hardware systems that improve reliability, manufacturability, durability, and cost-effectiveness across our robotic fleet.

Note: This is a full-time, in-office role. Coco operates in an office-first, highly collaborative environment, ideal for those who thrive on team synergy, innovation, and fast execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, subassemblies, and components for Coco’s robotic delivery fleet.

  • Create production-ready 3D CAD models and technical drawings for prototyping and manufacturing.

  • Lead design decisions based on cost, reliability, scalability, and user feedback.

  • Collaborate with external vendors and manufacturers to transition designs from prototype to high-volume production.

  • Work with internal teams to ensure alignment with product goals, operational needs, and user experience.

  • Conduct design reviews, validate prototypes, and iterate based on testing and real-world performance.

  • Continuously improve existing systems for durability, cost savings, and performance using data-driven methods.

About the Team

You’ll join a team of passionate and skilled engineers working at the intersection of mechanical design, electrical integration, and manufacturing. Together, we:

  • Design robust hardware from concept to deployment

  • Optimize manufacturing through collaboration with suppliers and contract manufacturers

  • Refine and iterate on systems based on testing, user feedback, and field data

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive product development across software, operations, and customer experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (or equivalent professional experience)

  • 2+ years of experience designing mechanical systems in consumer, industrial, automotive, or aerospace products

  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)

  • Experience generating production-ready technical drawings

  • Demonstrated experience designing for manufacturing processes such as:

    • Injection molding

    • Thermoforming

    • FDM/SLA 3D printing

    • Sheet metal fabrication

    • Machining

    • Casting and finishing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • Expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Experience designing for both rapid prototyping and high-volume production

  • Familiarity with mechatronic systems, suspension systems, or vehicle-based hardware

  • Proven ability to manage projects end-to-end, balancing technical detail with cost and schedule demands

Why Join Coco?

  • Build products that move through the real world, serving people and businesses every day

  • Join a mission-driven team at the forefront of robotics, logistics, and sustainability

  • Take ownership of meaningful projects with tangible, visible impact

  • Collaborate with diverse, driven teams in a fast-paced and fun environment
