Medical Assistant Role:
The Medical Assistant supports physicians and other providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate department supplies, and assisting with patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, confirming their identity and date of birth.

  • Take and record vital signs.

  • Organize patient flow in the clinic.

  • Set up procedure trays, instruments, and equipment as directed.

  • Prepare and route lab specimens as needed.

  • Address patient questions in person and over the phone.

  • Check and respond to to-dos and the nurse line.

  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory equipment according to schedule.

  • Maintain medication supplies, discard outdated items, and keep records.

  • Ensure infection control practices are followed and stock rooms with necessary supplies.

  • Order, restock, and maintain inventory of clinic supplies.

  • Document medical instructions given to patients and review wound care.

  • Administer anesthesia/injections for procedures.

  • Ensure timely addressing of phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental communications.

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Able to triage patient concerns effectively.

  • Knowledgeable and compliant with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Bloodborne Pathogen standards.

  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.

  • Experience administering injections.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.

  • Basic computer skills and experience with EMR systems.

  • Ability to operate office equipment (e.g., computer, fax, copier, scanner).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with staff, patients, and visitors in a courteous manner.

  • Must be willing to travel to satellite offices as needed.

  • Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.

  • Ability to sort and file materials alphabetically or numerically.

Licensure/Certifications/Education:

  • High School Graduate or GED required.

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or a bachelor’s degree in pre-med or pre-physician’s assistant track preferred.

  • CPR certification preferred.

  • 1-2 years of recent experience in medical assistance, certified nursing assistance, or other clinical patient care roles preferred.

  • Previous experience in dermatology is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and walking for long periods.

  • Moderate bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.

  • Use of hands and fingers for various tasks.

  • Regular talking and listening in person and over the phone.

  • Handling materials like paper and supplies.

  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.

  • Exposure to infectious organisms and potential injury from chemicals and sharp objects.
