As one of the top 10 largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in the nation, FHCSD operates more than 90 sites throughout San Diego County. These include 29 primary care clinics, 25 behavioral health facilities, nine physical rehabilitation clinics, nine dental clinics, five vision clinics, four outpatient substance use treatment programs, three mobile medical units, two mobile counseling centers, two urgent care centers, two PACE centers, and a pharmacy.
Each year, FHCSD cares for over 227,000 patients, 91% of whom are low-income, and 29% are uninsured. Additionally, as a Title X-funded provider, FHCSD delivers comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care to more than 42,000 unique patients annually.
The expansion of our services over the last five decades has made us the largest community clinic provider for the uninsured in the county, and one of the 10 largest community clinic organizations in the country. We are also the largest healthcare safety-net provider, the largest school-based healthcare provider, and the largest provider of comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the San Diego region.

Job Roles:

Attend in-services or complete make-up assignments.

Ensure compliance with TJC, DHS, CHDP, and Medi-Cal Managed Care Requirements.

Perform waived testing and phlebotomy.
-
Consistently follow FHCSD Policies and Procedures to ensure positive patient outcomes.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinic environment.

Prepare patients for exams and procedures, assisting providers as needed.

Help with clinic flow by scheduling follow-up appointments, providing referral information, and giving discharge instructions.

Respond to voicemails, route messages, and return calls promptly.

Record patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Administer medications, including injections.
-
Clean, process, and sterilize medical instruments.
-
Collect and handle lab specimens appropriately.

Implement 5S and continuous quality improvement methods in the workplace.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
-
Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited course required.
-
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
-
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets state or federal certification requirements.

Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advanced Resuscitation Training required.
Experience/Specialized Skills:

Minimum 1 year of experience in an ambulatory care setting or similar environment is highly preferred.

Ability to maintain positive interactions with clients and coworkers as part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary health team.

Ability to multitask, adapt, ensure accuracy, and meet priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Basic computer literacy for tasks such as electronic medical record documentation and appointment scheduling.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management abilities.

Multi-lingual abilities (Spanish, Arabic, Somali) preferred, depending on current priorities and locations.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

Bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying up to 10 lbs occasionally.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and biohazards.

Frequent use of personal protective equipment.

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
Compensation:
The hourly pay range for this role is $25.00 – $29.20, depending on location, experience, and skills. Additional factors such as internal equity and geographic location will be considered in the final offer. FHCSD also provides a generous benefits package, which includes health insurance, paid time off, and more.
