Job Summary
As a Medical Billing & Follow-Up Representative II, you will support Trinity Health’s revenue operations by managing billing and follow-up tasks for government payer accounts. You’ll be responsible for reviewing claims, resolving discrepancies, supporting less experienced colleagues, and ensuring timely payment and proper claim resolution. This role reports to the Supervisor of Billing & Follow-Up and is essential to the success of our revenue cycle team.
Key Responsibilities
As a Medical Billing & Follow-Up Representative you have to:

Handle daily billing and follow-up activities for assigned government accounts

Accurately document the billing status (billed, paid, settled, follow-up) in system(s)

Identify and escalate billing issues and delays as needed

Contact payers directly and respond to correspondence to ensure timely payments

Collaborate with hospital departments to resolve billing discrepancies and obtain required documentation

Investigate overpayments, underpayments, and credit balances
-
Research claim rejections and take corrective actions or escalate accordingly

Train and mentor new or junior Billing and Follow-Up Representatives

Prepare reports related to billing activity upon supervisor request

Qualifications
-
High school diploma or Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
-
3+ years’ experience in a hospital, clinic, health insurance company, or medical billing setting
-
Working knowledge of revenue cycle processes, medical claims, and payer policies

Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Detail-oriented with excellent time management and accuracy

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience

Background in a multi-site healthcare environment

Prior completion of regulatory certifications and billing training

Familiarity with federal and state healthcare billing guidelines
