Key Responsibilities of the Medical Coder

Review clinical documentation to accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient and outpatient records.

Ensure timely and precise assignment of ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, and modifiers for billing, reporting, and compliance.

Track documentation turnaround and follow up on deferred accounts or pending reviews.

Analyze data and generate reports related to E/M utilization, denials, and reimbursement.

Provide constructive coding feedback to providers and support education initiatives.

Collaborate with the revenue cycle and denial teams to resolve coding-related issues.

Assist in developing workflow enhancements and implementing new coding tools.
Required Skills & Qualifications for the Medical Coder Role

Minimum 3 years of radiology coding experience.

Certified CPC or CCS-P required.

Alternatively, RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification with relevant coding experience may be accepted.

Advanced understanding of federal, state, and payer-specific coding regulations.

Proven expertise in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS code assignment.

CIRCC certification is a plus.

Experience in academic or teaching hospital environments preferred.

Proficiency with Excel, Word, and healthcare billing software; Epic Ambulatory experience is advantageous.

Must pass a department coding proficiency test.
