Key Responsibilities of a Medical Coding Specialist II

Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M codes using encoder and grouper software

Apply knowledge of NCCI edits, LCD/NCD directives, MUEs, and Medicare Teaching Physician Guidelines

Ensure compliance with coding regulations and institutional policies

Collaborate with providers to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness

Stay updated with coding changes, guidelines, and best practices
Qualifications for a Medical Coding Specialist II

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent with coding education or an active coding certification

Preferred: Associate’s Degree in a healthcare-related field

1+ year progressive coding experience required (HCC-specific roles need HCC coding experience)

2+ years of coding experience in multiple specialties preferred
Accepted Certifications: CPC, COC, CIC, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CRC, RHIT, or RHIA
