Key Responsibilities of a Medical Records Clerk

 

The Medical Records Clerk ensures that patient information is efficiently stored, updated, and accessible when needed. You will manage both electronic and physical files, ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

 

Additional responsibilities include logging, tracking, and delivering medical records to authorized personnel while maintaining detailed records of all activities. The Medical Records Clerk also supports staff by streamlining document retrieval processes and resolving any discrepancies promptly.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and organize patient medical records efficiently.
  • File, locate, log, retrieve, and deliver medical documentation as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy regulations and organizational policies.
  • Support healthcare staff with timely record access and updates.
  • Identify and correct filing or documentation errors.
  • Assist in transitioning to and maintaining electronic health record systems.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
