Position Overview
The Middle School Special Education Teacher will serve as a vital member of the Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA) instructional team. This is a state-certified teaching position designed for educators who are passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs in an online environment.
The teacher will design and deliver instruction aligned with student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), provide accommodations and modifications, and ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements for special education. In this role, you will collaborate closely with students, parents, service providers, and general education staff to maximize student success and growth.
This role is ideal for teachers who are self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to fostering student achievement in a virtual setting.
Essential Responsibilities
As a Middle School Special Education Teacher, you will:

Instruction & Student Support

Deliver engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.

Personalize instruction through accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and supplemental curriculum.

Provide both synchronous (live, online) and asynchronous (self-paced) learning experiences.

IEP Development & Compliance
-
Develop compliant IEPs and progress reports.

Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress toward goals.

Facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate with parents and service providers.

Maintain accurate documentation of all student contacts, interventions, and services provided.

Family & Community Engagement

Communicate regularly with families to build strong relationships and ensure transparency.

Provide parents/learning coaches with guidance on supporting their student’s education at home.

Establish and maintain rapport with students and their families to foster trust and collaboration.

Collaboration & Professionalism

Work closely with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop strategies for student success.

Participate in professional development, training, and staff meetings.

Prepare students for high-stakes standardized testing and ensure they are meeting academic benchmarks.

Contribute to a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with Special Education endorsement

Ability to pass required background checks
Desired Qualifications

Previous experience teaching middle school students in either online or brick-and-mortar settings

Experience supporting families and students in a technology-rich learning environment

Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn new platforms quickly

Receptive to coaching and feedback; flexible in adapting to change

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Compensation & Benefits
Stride, Inc. considers education, experience, geographic location, and qualifications when determining compensation. Offers typically fall within the lower half of the range at the time of hire. Eligible employees may also qualify for performance-based bonuses.

Work Environment
This position is 100% virtual. Teachers are expected to maintain a professional home office environment free from distractions during working hours. Reliable high-speed internet and technology proficiency are required.
