Job Description

South Derbyshire District Council is looking for a reliable and experienced Multi Skilled Joiner to join our responsive repairs team. As a Multi Skilled Joiner, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and improving both occupied and vacant housing properties across the district. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a busy, customer-focused team that takes pride in quality workmanship and delivering repairs right the first time. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required for on-call duties. A full driving licence is necessary, and a company van will be provided. Multi Skilled Joiner Job Role and Responsibilities

As a Multi Skilled Joiner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out a wide range of repairs and improvements in council properties

  • Maintaining an accurate record of material use via PDA and replenishing stock

  • Ordering and specifying specialist materials as needed

  • Accurately updating planners/admin with ticket status, changes, or follow-up requirements

  • Following all health and safety policies and company procedures

  • Ensuring all tools and equipment are safe, serviced, and maintained

  • Carrying out work to a high standard and completing tasks on the first visit when possible

  • Supervising apprentices if assigned, ensuring their work meets expected quality

You’ll also be expected to represent the council professionally, meet tenant appointments on time, and always work safely.

What We’re Looking for in a Multi Skilled Joiner

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or substantial experience in joinery and a secondary trade

  • Good understanding of local authority housing repair work

  • Current CSCS site operative card (or willingness to obtain)

  • Excellent planning, decision-making, and communication skills

  • A positive attitude with the ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation

  • Full driving licence (vehicle provided)

You must be confident in using technology such as PDAs and be able to manage your workload effectively.
