Multilingual Learner Teacher

Summary of Responsibilities

The Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher supports students acquiring English by providing targeted instruction, fostering cultural inclusivity, and collaborating with staff to ensure equitable access to learning. This role develops differentiated lessons, assesses student language proficiency, and applies research-based strategies to promote success. The teacher partners with families, advocates for multilingual learners, and helps create an environment where students thrive academically and socially.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver English Language Development (ELD) instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

  • Design differentiated lessons based on student language proficiency and academic needs.

  • Assess, monitor, and analyze student progress to guide instruction.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and administrators.

  • Foster a culturally inclusive classroom environment.

  • Communicate with families about academic progress and involvement opportunities.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development.

  • Advocate for equitable access to resources and opportunities for multilingual learners.

  • Implement positive classroom management strategies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, moving, and engagement with students.

  • Lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.

  • Visual and auditory ability for instruction and supervision.

  • Clear verbal communication with students, staff, and families.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or related field (required).

  • Master’s degree in Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, or related field (preferred).

  • Experience with multilingual learners in K–12 settings.

  • Familiarity with language assessment tools and strategies.

  • Experience in culturally responsive teaching.

  • Collaboration with staff for language development and inclusion.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

  • Valid teaching license/certification in ESL or bilingual education (as required by state).
