Overview
Cable One and its family of brands, including Sparklight, are seeking a skilled Network Automation Engineer to join our team remotely in select U.S. states. This role focuses on automating network engineering workflows, developing backend systems, and supporting Agile development initiatives. You’ll work with Python, Ansible, APIs, and modern DevOps tools to optimize network operations and improve system efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

Network Automation & Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain Python and Ansible automations for network workflows.

  • Program backend automation tasks for provisioning, deployment, and integration of networking equipment.

  • Work with APIs and data pipelines to enhance network and system operations.

  • Participate in code demonstrations and review sessions with senior engineers.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Write low-level design documentation and contribute to high-level design documentation as needed.

  • Collaborate directly with network engineers and stakeholders to create and interpret requirements for Agile user stories.

  • Assist in defining best practices, coding standards, and automation processes within the team.

Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and optimize automation processes.

  • Support data pipeline monitoring and issue resolution, occasionally requiring on-call availability.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across automation workflows and network operations.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields preferred (or 5+ years of equivalent experience in network engineering with strong automation and Python skills).

  • Proficient in Python programming and backend automation.

  • Experience with API development, data structures, and SQL databases.

  • Familiarity with web technologies such as JavaScript and React.

  • Knowledge of containerization platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift.

  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD workflows.

  • Experience with network automation technologies including NETCONF, Netmiko, NAPALM, TextFSM, SNMP, Direct CLI, and Ansible network modules.

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to work collaboratively under guidance from senior engineers.

  • Adaptable and eager to learn new technologies and methods.

  • Up to 10% travel may be required.

  • Basic experience with data pipeline tools such as Apache Airflow or Talend is a plus.
