Network Development Engineer, Kuiper Enterprise Network Infrastructure

Job Description

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world. Kuiper is designed with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve households, schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations in areas lacking reliable connectivity.

As a Senior Network Development Engineer, you will drive the operational strategy and excellence of Kuiper’s global network infrastructure. You’ll lead programs across manufacturing facilities, research labs, launch sites, and mission operations centers, while mentoring a team of engineers to ensure operational excellence at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and maintain complex network solutions in labs and manufacturing environments

  • Drive operational excellence programs across global sites

  • Lead incident management for critical/high-severity events

  • Establish best practices for global network operations

  • Build and execute operational readiness programs for new sites

  • Lead root cause analysis for multi-system issues

  • Develop improvement roadmaps for network operations

  • Create and run training programs for team development

  • Serve as escalation point for major network issues

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for infrastructure support

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure mission reliability

A Day in the Life

  • Monitor alerts across global facilities and operations centers

  • Analyze traffic and plan for network expansions

  • Deploy solutions for launch sites, partners, and test facilities

  • Coordinate WAN circuit installations with vendors

  • Troubleshoot routing and production issues

  • Mentor junior engineers on advanced deployments

  • Participate in change management and maintenance planning

  • Ensure security controls and high availability across sites

  • Balance short-term fixes with long-term strategic improvements

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years scripting/automation (Python, Bash, Shell, Perl)

  • 8+ years working with major internet routing protocols

  • 5+ years Linux/Unix experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS networking products (Direct Connect, Transit Gateway)
