Position Summary
Duke Energy is seeking a Telecom Data Network Engineer to support critical network infrastructure across the Midwest region. This hybrid position (Tues–Thurs in-office) is ideal for professionals with 1–5 years of networking experience and a foundational understanding of Layer 2 technologies. While certifications like CCNA are a plus, they are not required. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and driven to pursue excellence.
Key Responsibilities

Configure and deploy Cisco routers and switches in alignment with enterprise standards

Develop and maintain network documentation (e.g., topology diagrams, wiring layouts) using MS Visio

Assist with equipment configuration (approx. 10–20%) and collaborate on design and documentation with senior engineers

Participate in testing, implementation, and change management processes

Ensure accurate documentation of alarms, asset tracking, and network updates

Support turn-up activities, including circuit provisioning and basic troubleshooting (Layer 2/3)

Occasionally interface with firewalls, SD-WAN, and wireless systems

Contribute to Agile-based team projects and continuous improvement efforts
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Qualifications:

1–5 years of hands-on experience in networking

Solid understanding of Layer 2 concepts: VLANs, trunking (Dot1q), and Spanning Tree Protocol

Familiarity with IPv4, subnetting, and basic routing (OSPF, BGP is a plus)

Exposure to Cisco networking gear

Ability to work independently, follow procedures, and communicate effectively

Team-oriented mindset and willingness to learn

Local to or willing to relocate to Plainfield, IN or Cincinnati, OH
Nice-to-Have (but not required):

Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Python scripting, Opengear, SolarWinds, or BlueCat IPAM

Knowledge of SCADA systems and utility networks

Familiarity with SD-WAN, ACI, or controller-based network platforms

CCNA or CCNP certification

Experience with Agile tools like JIRA
