The Role: Staff Network Reliability Engineer
We’re looking for a highly skilled Staff Network Reliability Engineer to manage and evolve Gusto’s corporate, datacenter, and cloud networks. In this role, you’ll focus on large-scale network projects, automation, and operational excellence—ensuring our global infrastructure is fast, reliable, and secure.

This position combines traditional networking expertise with modern automation practices. You’ll play a key role in scaling Gusto’s connectivity as we continue to grow.


What You’ll Do

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure and reliable corporate and cloud networks.

  • Build automation tools to monitor, configure, and optimize network performance.

  • Standardize and maintain consistency across global network environments.

  • Collaborate with security, facilities, and A/V teams to deliver seamless connectivity.

  • Develop tools and dashboards to track network health, reliability, and SLAs.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical network operations.

  • Travel quarterly to Gusto offices for hands-on implementation and troubleshooting.


What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in network engineering and infrastructure operations.

  • Deep technical expertise in Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto environments.

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and distributed system design.

  • Proficiency with Linux systems and programming in Python or Go.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS or other major cloud platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to automate network management and monitoring.

  • Strong analytical mindset with a passion for operational excellence.

  • Flexibility to support mission-critical services during off-hours when needed.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Denver & most remote locations: $150,000–$165,000/year

  • New York, Seattle & San Francisco Bay Area: $170,000–$195,000/year

  • Stock equity and bonus potential included

Actual pay will depend on experience, skills, and location.


Work Environment
Our offices are located in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees in these regions typically work onsite 2–3 days per week. Hybrid and remote employees must maintain a secure, high-speed internet connection.
