Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Deliver outstanding customer service in-person and over the phone

  • Take and process customer orders

  • Assist customers in selecting products and answering their questions

Food Service

  • Prepare, package, and merchandise fresh product daily

  • Slice, label, and rotate perishable items

  • Use tools like the Telxon scanner for production

Sales

  • Effectively merchandise products

  • Use suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs

  • Make announcements to promote freshly prepared items

Sanitation / Food Safety

  • Sanitize cases and prep areas

  • Maintain equipment

  • Follow food safety guidelines and departmental SOPs

Department-Specific Roles

  • Aguas: Prepare fresh-cut fruits and specialty drinks

  • Floral: Design arrangements and execute merchandising programs

  • Market: Cut, prepare, and package meat; operate processing equipment

  • Produce: Stock, wrap, price, and rotate produce; assist floral department

  • Seafood: Handle fish/shellfish; weigh, price, and maintain freezers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of H-E-B Orientation and Safety Training

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills

  • Basic computer knowledge (Telxon, ACR, label machines)

Physical Requirements

Market:

  • Constant reaching at waist

  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling

  • Occasionally lift up to 90 lbs or more

  • Exposed to cold, wet, ambient temperatures

Seafood:

  • Constant reaching and grasping

  • Frequent exposure to wet, cold conditions

  • Occasionally lift 50 lbs or more
