Key Responsibilities
-
Accurately assign CPT and ICD-10-CM codes for outpatient surgeries, emergency, observation, CVIR, ancillary services, and clinics.

Apply coding knowledge to analyze/correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity accounts.

Understand and apply Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) codes.
-
Provide documentation feedback and queries to physicians as necessary.

Maintain coding quality and productivity per Optum360 standards.
-
Abstract additional data elements as needed during chart review.
-
Stay current on coding policies, procedures, and best practices.

Participate in department meetings, training, and educational events.
Required Qualifications
-
High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
-
Professional coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A).

2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience including same-day surgery, observation, emergency, ancillary services, and clinics.

1+ year experience with LCD, NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits, OCE, MUE, and NCCI reimbursement structures.

Expert-level proficiency in CPT and ICD-10-CM coding.

Strong computer skills, including Windows, MS Excel, and EMR systems.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with complex cardiac catheterizations and interventional radiology (CVIR/IVR).

Familiarity with encoder systems (eCAC, 3M, EPIC).

Experience with OSHPD reporting.

Intermediate-level Microsoft Excel skills.
