Job Overview:

College of DuPage invites applications for a Part-Time Reference Librarian to support the library’s teaching mission through reference assistance, research consultation, instruction, outreach, and resource development. This role enhances student engagement and promotes information literacy across the College community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide reference and research consultations in-person, via chat, and video conference for students, faculty, and the public.

  • Teach information literacy and facilitate library orientations for general education, career, technical, and student development courses.

  • Collaborate with liaison librarians on outreach, collection development, research guides, and instructional resources.

  • Contribute to the COD institutional repository by creating metadata for digital assets as needed.

  • Support library promotion through displays, events, and social media engagement.

  • Participate in department committees as required.

Required Qualifications:
Education:

  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of reference assistance experience in-person and virtually; 2 years preferred.

  • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience, preferably in an academic library.

  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and pedagogy for diverse student populations.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Commitment to the College’s mission and core values.

Work Schedule & Pay:

  • Primarily weekday, daytime hours with flexible schedules.

  • Occasional weekend or evening shifts may be required.

  • Additional project-based and instructional hours may be available.

  • Pay Rate: $47.72 per hour.

  • Pre-employment background check required (paid by College).
