About the Role
The Patient Account Representative serves as an insurance and reimbursement expert for one or more business lines, such as durable medical equipment. This role involves performing billing, collection, and reimbursement activities to ensure accurate and timely payment for services. The representative will handle claim submissions, insurance verification, denial management, rebilling, appeals, and accounts receivable tracking while maintaining excellent communication with patients and healthcare staff.
Key Responsibilities

Manage billing and collection processes for assigned business lines.

Perform insurance pre-certification, coverage review, and responsibility determination.

Communicate with patients and internal teams (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technicians, social workers) to resolve billing and payment issues.

Prepare and submit claims; manage denials, appeals, and rebilling as necessary.

Apply knowledge of policies to ensure optimal reimbursement and patient satisfaction.
Required Skills & Competencies

Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).

Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Windows-based software.

Keyboarding skills required.

Basic understanding of healthcare and insurance terminology.

Experience with claims management software preferred.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Education & Experience

Associate degree in finance, business, or healthcare field and one year of experience in medical or DME billing and collections, OR
-
High school diploma/GED with at least three years of relevant experience in medical or DME billing and collections.
