Role Summary

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for analyzing and resolving patient billing issues. This includes direct communication with patients, insurance providers, and healthcare systems to ensure timely and accurate payments and account resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and follow up on open accounts to determine payment status

• Analyze payer contracts, 835s, and EOBs to confirm reimbursement and adjustments

• Investigate and resolve payment variances, denials, and credit balances

• Work client correspondence and update patient demographic information

• Maintain clear and concise account follow-up notes

• Escalate issues to leadership when appropriate

• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold HIPAA/PHI standards

• Meet daily productivity and quality assurance benchmarks

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing or equivalent combination of education and experience

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred

• Medical billing certification preferred

• Familiarity with healthcare terminology, HIPAA, and healthcare billing systems

• Strong time management, problem-solving, and communication skills

• Ability to work independently in a distraction-free home office

• Must be detail-oriented, organized, and proficient with computer systems

Work Environment

• Remote position requiring a quiet, dedicated home workspace

• Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
