The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to take ownership of our payroll processes. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this role will be responsible for managing payroll operations, maintaining HRIS systems, and ensuring accuracy in timekeeping records.
This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three days onsite per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) at our headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain the Paylocity payroll system, ensuring accurate employee pay records.
- Audit and process payroll data, including time and attendance records, tax withholdings, and wage garnishments.
- Ensure compliance with federal, California state, and Los Angeles city wage laws, including FLSA and California Wage Orders.
- Reconcile payroll records with the general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
- Process employee deductions, benefits, 401(k) contributions, and wage adjustments.
- Manage payroll-related inquiries and provide timely resolutions.
- Oversee payroll tax deposits and prepare required federal and state filings.
- Administer payroll for resignations, terminations, severance, and bonuses.
- Support audits and assist with month-end journal entries related to payroll.
- Stay up to date on payroll regulations and serve as a subject matter expert on compliance and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field with 5+ years of payroll processing experience (preferably using Paylocity or ADP Workforce Now).
- OR Associate degree with 7+ years of payroll experience.
- Extensive knowledge of federal and California state wage and hour regulations.
- Proficiency with G Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000 (based on experience and qualifications).
