About the Role
Brookdale is seeking a Payroll Specialist to manage multi-state payroll tax filings, ensure compliance, and maintain accurate payroll reporting. This role ensures timely and precise processing of federal, state, and local payroll taxes while serving as a liaison between the company, employees, and third-party vendors.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare, file, and reconcile federal, state, and local payroll tax reports.

Maintain and validate weekly tax files, reconcile with vendor reports, and prepare off-period filings.

Perform payroll audits and maintain W-4 forms.

Oversee payroll tax withholding, unemployment registration, and HR/Payroll system tax configurations.

Respond to W-2 questions and process corrections (W-2C).

Monitor unemployment tax rate changes and ensure cost-efficient updates in payroll systems.

Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Collaborate with Internal Audit to ensure compliance with payroll controls.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
-
3–5 years of experience with high-volume, multi-state payroll tax filings.

General accounting knowledge and understanding of payroll procedures.

PeopleSoft experience required; ADP Tax Services preferred.

CPP certification preferred.

Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

Ability to perform basic math calculations and interpret reports.

Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.
