Children’s Hospital of Michigan is a globally recognized leader in pediatric and adolescent health care. Our comprehensive surgical services span general, thoracic, reconstructive, and cardiovascular procedures. We feature state-of-the-art imaging technology designed specifically for children, including advanced modalities like PET and MRI. Our Emergency Department is verified as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and also serves as a dedicated pediatric burn center. We provide specialized care in critical care, neonatal, perinatal, and rehabilitative medicine across our main campus in Detroit, Children’s Hospital of Michigan – Troy, and six outpatient centers.

Position Summary

Working under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures, the Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic imaging exams using appropriate equipment. Responsibilities include verifying patient identity, reviewing medical records for exam appropriateness, and assessing relevant patient risk factors (e.g., medication use, pregnancy, mental/emotional status).

The technologist interviews and educates patients regarding the procedure, including possible side effects, risks, benefits, and follow-up instructions. This role requires accurate imaging acquisition and preliminary observation of results, followed by documentation and communication with the radiologist.

Additionally, the technologist must respond to medical emergencies, provide physician-prescribed post-care guidance, and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives such as patient flow, image quality assessment, and satisfaction tracking. The position also involves mentoring residents, students, and new team members and may require taking call/standby shifts.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R)

  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification (must be completed by end of orientation)

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and clinical judgment to adapt imaging techniques to patients’ age and physical limitations

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients under stress and coordinate with physicians and staff

  • Proficient in operating imaging equipment and related technologies

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

  • Physical stamina for extended periods of walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning

  • Manual dexterity and visual precision for operating x-ray equipment and producing high-quality diagnostic images
