PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program – Holy Name Medical Center

Position Overview: PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident
As a Pharmacy Practice Resident, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering both inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical care, including ambulatory services. Your progress will be evaluated consistently in alignment with ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists) accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Participate in direct patient care by working alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to make clinical pharmacotherapeutic recommendations.

Review and assess medication orders for clinical appropriateness, including screening for allergies, drug interactions, dosing, and contraindications.

Demonstrate proficiency in using pharmacy automation and technology for accurate dispensing, preparation, and tracking of medications.

Provide pharmaceutical care that meets therapeutic goals and ensures optimal outcomes for patients.

Design and monitor therapeutic drug plans, prioritizing safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness.

Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and hospital-wide performance improvement projects.

Serve as a resource and educator for pharmacy staff, students, nurses, and other healthcare personnel.

Actively participate in hospital committees and clinical research activities.

Follow all USP <797> and <800> guidelines, aseptic technique protocols, and documentation standards for sterile product preparation.

Handle and document controlled substances in compliance with NJ and federal regulations.

Supervise pharmacy technicians in line with NJ Board of Pharmacy requirements.

Complete a major residency project and additional research initiatives as specified in the residency program.

Precept and mentor pharmacy students.
Required Qualifications:

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited program

Experience: Previous hospital experience is preferred

Licensure: Must obtain a New Jersey pharmacist license within 90 days of hire

Skills: Excellent communication skills and high proficiency in information technology applications related to pharmacy practice
