Pharmacist

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacist is responsible for the safe and effective preparation, compounding, dispensing, and distribution of medications in accordance with established professional standards and regulatory guidelines. This role includes providing expert drug information to healthcare providers and patients, reviewing prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness, and ensuring the proper handling and storage of pharmaceuticals.

The Pharmacist serves as a vital resource in patient care by offering counseling on medication usage, potential side effects, and drug interactions. Additionally, the Pharmacist supports the clinical team by promoting safe medication practices and participates in quality improvement efforts. This individual must demonstrate cultural sensitivity and professional integrity while interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff across all age groups.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical and Dispensing Duties

  • Accurately fill prescriptions using appropriate pharmaceutical practices and compounding techniques.

  • Counsel patients and healthcare providers on drug indications, dosing regimens, contraindications, storage requirements, and possible adverse effects.

  • Perform drug utilization reviews to ensure safe and effective therapy.

  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate patient medication records and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Inventory and Operations Management

  • Monitor and manage medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing pharmaceuticals in a secure and organized manner.

  • Oversee the preparation, labeling, packaging, and documentation of all medications dispensed.

  • Submit monthly inventory and usage reports to the Chief Financial Officer or designated administrator.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff, providing oversight to ensure quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

  • Assist in staff training and contribute to a productive, patient-focused work environment.

  • Promote high standards of pharmacy practice and contribute to policy development and implementation.

Compliance and Quality Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations, including those set forth by the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and HIPAA.

  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing pharmacy services and patient care.

  • Uphold patient confidentiality and maintain professionalism in all aspects of practice.

Patient and Community Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to patients regarding medication adherence and preventative healthcare strategies.

  • Support organizational goals related to public health promotion and education throughout all phases of the patient lifecycle.

  • Demonstrate cultural competency and a positive, respectful attitude toward all patients and colleagues.

Administrative and Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance and verify timecards at the end of each pay period.

  • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education sessions to stay current with evolving pharmacy practices and technologies.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by leadership.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS, BA, or Pharm.D. degree.

  • Completion of a recognized pharmacy internship program.

  • Active and unrestricted Pharmacist License issued by the State of Mississippi.

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a licensed pharmacist is preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmacology, compounding, and drug manufacturing techniques.

  • Proficient understanding of drug interactions, side effects, therapeutic uses, and dosage forms.

  • Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—and the ability to work effectively under pressure.


Physical Requirements

  • Must have full range of motion, fine motor skills, and excellent hand-eye coordination.

  • Must frequently perform physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching.

  • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing over 10 pounds.

  • Must be able to remain attentive to audio and visual cues continuously.
