Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Process and verify prescription orders within the IHS EHR, ensuring completeness, accurate dosing, allergy verification, and clinical appropriateness.

Evaluate for drug-drug and food interactions, contraindications, renal function concerns, and safety warnings.

Provide comprehensive patient counseling on proper medication use and potential side effects.

Monitor patient medication profiles, identify drug-related issues, and offer evidence-based recommendations.

Verify the accuracy of medications prepared by technical staff.

Educate and support clinical team members with up-to-date medication-related guidance.

Oversee pharmaceutical inventory management, with an emphasis on scheduled substances.

Maintain strict documentation and compliance for controlled substances and medication safety protocols, including adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and error reporting.

Collaborate with specialists and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

Skills & Qualifications

Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and medication management.

Holds a current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in any U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited institution.

Familiarity with pharmacy systems such as IHS EHR, RPMS, ScriptPro, and Omnicell.

Competent in standard office software (Microsoft Office, email, internet browsing).

Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality regulations.

Demonstrated expertise in:

Dispensing and verifying medications.

Patient medication education and counseling.
-
Medication inventory and controlled substance management.

Clinical direction and oversight of pharmacy support staff.

Quality improvement and drug use evaluations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment

Regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment.

Frequent movement including standing, walking, bending, and sitting for extended periods.
