Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Process prescription orders through the IHS EHR, ensuring accuracy, appropriate dosing, allergy screening, and completeness.

  • Identify and assess drug-drug and food interactions, contraindications, and renal dosing requirements.

  • Provide patients with counseling on the safe and effective use of prescribed medications.

  • Review patient profiles, monitor medication therapy, identify potential drug-related issues, and recommend appropriate interventions.

  • Verify the accuracy of all pharmaceutical preparations dispensed by technical staff.

  • Serve as a clinical resource, providing medication information and training to healthcare staff.

  • Support inventory control processes, particularly for scheduled and controlled substances.

  • Maintain detailed and compliant records related to controlled substance security, medication interactions, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and medication errors.

  • Collaborate with specialty practitioners to optimize patient care and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Skills & Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical care, medication safety, and drug therapy management.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams and patients.

  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving clinical procedures and patient care needs.

  • Proven ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.

  • Active, unrestricted pharmacy license in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college or university.

  • Hands-on experience with pharmacy systems, including IHS EHR, RPMS, ScriptPro, and Omnicell.

  • Proficient in general computer applications such as Microsoft Office, email, and internet navigation.

  • Familiarity with HIPAA standards and medical confidentiality regulations.

  • Demonstrated professional experience in:

    • Dispensing and verifying medications

    • Counseling patients on medication use

    • Managing pharmaceutical inventory and controlled substances

    • Providing clinical oversight to pharmacy personnel

    • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and medication use evaluations


Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not include supervisory duties.


Work Environment

This role involves routine use of standard office and pharmacy equipment, including computers, phones, and photocopiers. Candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use a computer for extended periods. Effective communication through glass service windows with patients is required.


Physical Demands

The physical requirements of this role include regular speaking and hearing. The employee must frequently stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with arms to carry out daily tasks.
