General Function:
As a Pharmacist at Hy-Vee, you will provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. You will be responsible for filling and verifying prescriptions, counseling patients in accordance with all state and federal regulations, and assisting with pharmacy inventory management, including controlled substances, on an annual basis or as needed.

Reporting Relations:

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers (Store Operations, Perishables, Health & Wellness), Pharmacy Department Manager, Pharmacy Supervisor

Positions reporting to you: Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Clerk, Delivery Person, Pharmacy Students
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide exceptional, friendly customer service by demonstrating care, concern, and patience in all interactions, treating customers as the highest priority.

Greet customers with a smile, and make an effort to learn and address them by name whenever possible.

Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, and loading/unloading heavy items.
-
Take note of customer suggestions and pass them along to the appropriate channels to improve the shopping experience.

Answer the phone promptly and provide helpful, friendly service to callers.

Help with the inventory of controlled substances on an annual basis or as required.

Assist with inventory control by ordering, stocking, checking invoices, and entering inventory data into the computer system.

Coach, counsel, and train employees, and participate in additional education and training.

Assist the HBC manager with ordering and merchandising OTC products.

Fill and verify prescriptions and provide patient counseling in line with OBRA ’90 regulations.

Reconcile and balance third-party accounts.

Promote pharmacy services through outreach to schools, doctors’ offices, senior centers, and other venues.

Participate in monthly inventory management.

Drive growth and sales by offering counseling and wellness programs.

Follow all security and regulatory procedures, including Quality Assurance Programs.

In the absence of the pharmacy manager, assume responsibility for the department.

Ensure customers receive prompt, courteous service, and maintain a professional appearance (e.g., clean lab coat and name tag).

Communicate any procedural changes, issues, or corporate updates with the pharmacy manager.

Adhere to company policies and store guidelines, and report to work as scheduled.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

Partner with other departments to promote wellness and pharmacy services.

Assist in other areas of the store as needed.

Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
-
Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to solve problems involving abstract and concrete variables.

Proficiency in arithmetic calculations, including algebraic and geometric calculations.

Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and evaluate technical data.

Experience in patient counseling and medication therapy management (MTM) is preferred.

Immunization administration capability preferred.
Education and Experience:
-
College degree and licensure in pharmacy.
-
Continuing education to maintain licensure.
-
Six months to one year of similar work experience.
-
Medication Therapy Management (MTM) experience is preferred.

Ability to administer immunizations is preferred.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and negligible force constantly.

Visual requirements: ability to see at distances ranging from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction, including depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
Working Conditions:
-
Fast-paced retail environment with the need to juggle multiple tasks (e.g., filling prescriptions, answering the phone, assisting customers).

Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs.
Equipment Used to Perform Job:

PC with pharmacy software and printer, cash register, pharmacy balance, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, copier.
Financial Responsibility:
-
Full responsibility for company assets, including prescription inventory, third-party accounts receivable, pharmacy software, and pharmacy fixtures.

Authority to purchase pharmacy inventory within reasonable limits.
Contacts:

Daily contact with customers, the general public, suppliers/vendors, and pharmacy operations support staff.

Occasional contact with community organizations and regulatory agencies.
Confidentiality:

Maintain customer confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Protect prescription drug pricing and cost information.
Safety and Health Acknowledgment:

Understand and acknowledge the risks associated with handling hazardous drugs as per USP 800 standards, especially for personnel of reproductive capability.
