Key Responsibilities

Process prescriptions using the Indian Health Service (IHS) Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring accuracy, completeness, proper dosing, and allergy screening.

Evaluate for drug-drug and food interactions, contraindications, and warnings, with particular attention to renal function.

Provide patient counseling on the safe and effective use of medications.

Review medication regimens, monitor therapy, identify and resolve medication-related issues.

Verify all pharmaceutical products prepared by pharmacy technicians.

Deliver medication-related education and support to clinical staff.

Manage pharmaceutical inventory, particularly controlled substances, in compliance with regulations.

Maintain accurate records of controlled substances, report medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADRs).

Collaborate with specialty providers to optimize medication therapy and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical care and medication management.

Accuracy in maintaining detailed and compliant records.

Active, unrestricted pharmacy license in any U.S. state or territory (including D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited institution.

Familiarity with pharmacy systems including IHS EHR, RPMS, ScriptPro, and Omnicell.

Competency in general computer applications (Microsoft Office, email, internet).

Understanding of HIPAA and medical confidentiality standards.

Demonstrated experience in:

Medication dispensing and processing

Clinical oversight and staff guidance

Quality assurance and medication use evaluations

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not include supervisory duties.
Work Environment

Frequent use of standard office equipment including computers, phones, and copiers.

Must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, and engage in computer work for extended periods.

Communication with patients may occur through protective barriers, such as glass windows.
