Pharmacist Clinical Specialist – Oncology

Position Overview

Essentia Health is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to deliver safe, accurate, and efficient pharmaceutical care while supporting education, clinical training, and practice development. This position offers the opportunity to engage in clinical services for both adult and pediatric populations. Key responsibilities include overseeing medication ordering, dispensing, and delivery systems; educating pharmacy residents, students, and healthcare personnel; and contributing to quality improvement initiatives such as formulary management, medication error prevention, and drug utilization evaluations.

This role may also include serving as a residency program director or preceptor for pharmacy learners and participating in various administrative activities and committees.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based pharmaceutical care with a focus on safety and clinical effectiveness

  • Support and lead training for pharmacists, residents, students, and healthcare teams

  • Oversee and improve medication use systems and therapeutic protocols

  • Contribute to formulary development, medication guidelines, and policy updates

  • Participate in and lead pharmacy practice initiatives and interdisciplinary committees

  • Support educational programs and mentorship for learners, residents, and interns

  • Provide clinical expertise in chemotherapy, biologics, and infusion therapies (as applicable)


Required Qualifications

  • PharmD or M.S. degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency, board certification program, or equivalent clinical experience

  • Eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of practice


Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) or eligibility to obtain within one year of hire

  • Completion of a PGY2 residency or equivalent experience in oncology or infusion care

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience

  • Prior experience in ambulatory oncology or infusion settings

  • Proficiency in chemotherapy and biologic therapies

  • Experience in protocol development and maintenance

  • Demonstrated involvement in pharmacy education or residency programs


Licensure Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy

  • If not licensed at the time of hire, candidates must have a Pharmacy Intern License and be eligible for full licensure within 90 days

State-Specific Intern Guidelines:

  • Minnesota: Must hold a Pharmacy Intern License

  • Wisconsin: No registration required if in the final months of a pharmacy program

  • North Dakota: Must be registered as a Pharmacy Intern

Ongoing compliance with continuing education and license renewal is required.
