Pharmacy Operations at Cardinal Health

Our Pharmacy Operations division ensures the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of pharmacy services across acute care hospitals, ambulatory care centers, oncology/cardiology practices, and retail locations. Within this group, the Health System Pharmacy team offers customized programs that help reduce costs and improve care for hospitals and integrated healthcare systems.


What is Nuclear Pharmacy at Cardinal Health?

Cardinal Health’s Nuclear Pharmacy team is responsible for the preparation and distribution of radiopharmaceuticals and other medications under strict federal and state regulations. Our nuclear pharmacists work closely with physicians and nuclear medicine technologists to ensure the safe and effective use of radioactive drugs for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.


What You’ll Do

  • Take telephone orders from healthcare providers and enter prescriptions using our systems.

  • Prepare and dispense radiopharmaceuticals per prescription and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee pharmacy technicians (where permitted) in radiopharmaceutical preparation.

  • Perform quality control testing and accurately package doses for shipment.

  • Conduct medication assays, white blood cell labeling, and kit preparations.

  • Maintain inventory and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.

  • Deliver radiopharmaceutical doses as needed.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and customer experience reviews.

  • Train newly hired pharmacy team members.

  • May serve as Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

  • Active Pharmacist License in FL required; must obtain licensure in GA and PR within 6 months of hire

  • Completion of at least 200 hours of accredited nuclear pharmacy academic training

  • Valid driver’s license; ability to safely operate a vehicle in all weather conditions

  • Comfortable working various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations

  • Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs and demonstrating manual dexterity

  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills

  • Intermediate computer skills and adaptability to technology tools

  • Prior Authorized User (AU) certification is preferred; training can be provided


What is an Authorized User (AU)?

Per Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) guidelines, an AU must complete at least 700 hours of combined academic and supervised on-the-job training in areas such as radiation physics, radiation biology, and safety. For licensed pharmacists, a formal preceptor statement is also required. AU training can be obtained through Cardinal Health if not already completed.
