Job Overview

We are seeking dedicated Pediatric Oncology and Medical Oncology pharmacists to join our team at the Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute in Los Angeles, California. As a Clinical Specialist Pharmacist, you will play a crucial role in providing direct patient care within both our pediatric oncology and medical oncology teams. You will deliver medication management services in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and managing medication therapy regimens

  • Providing medication therapy management and supportive care

  • Educating patients on medication usage

  • Reviewing and verifying chemotherapy orders

  • Offering drug information and optimizing drug therapies

  • Participating in collaborative, protocol-driven practices as appropriate

Additionally, you will contribute to the development and update of drug monographs for oncology diagnosis-related group guidelines and present quarterly updates at Oncology P&T subcommittee meetings. You will also play an active role in the education and mentorship of pharmacy students and residents.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Pharm.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited school of pharmacy

  • Completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency or equivalent practical experience

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Active pharmacist licensure in the State of California

  • BLS certification in accordance with Pharmacist Responsibilities in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) and Code Blue Procedure: Pharmacy Policy and Procedure

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency or equivalent practice experience

  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology related to drug usage

  • Strong understanding of common disease states and pathologies

  • Ability to comprehend and apply patient medical management plans

  • Ability to assess and apply pharmacological principles in clinical settings

  • Ability to gather relevant information from patients and other sources and apply it to patient care plans

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to teach and serve as a preceptor for pharmacy training programs

  • Competency in preparing drugs for immediate administration and monitoring their use

  • Knowledge of pharmacy practice laws, regulations, and standards

  • Adaptability to change and ability to prioritize workflow effectively

  • Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations, compounding, and pharmacokinetics

  • Patient-centered communication skills

  • Strong computer skills to perform job functions

  • Ability to learn and adapt to the use of automated information systems in daily practice

  • Ability to evaluate and optimize medication regimens to meet patient needs

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, and lifting materials up to 40 pounds for short distances (up to 10 feet)
