Pharmacy Resident – Lorain Hospital

Job Overview:

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to expand upon the foundational knowledge gained during pharmacy school, preparing residents to become well-rounded clinical pharmacists capable of providing comprehensive medication-related care to diverse patient populations. Upon completion, residents are eligible for Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification and further PGY2 residency training. Alumni of the program have successfully pursued advanced roles in specialties such as Ambulatory Care and Infectious Diseases, as well as clinical pharmacist and specialist positions within the Bon Secours Mercy Health network.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the medication use process within a complex health system.

  • Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered pharmacotherapy in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrate competence in managing medication therapy across a variety of patient populations and clinical settings.

  • Participate in pharmacy leadership and professional development initiatives.

  • Provide education to patients, providers, and fellow healthcare professionals on safe and effective medication use.

  • Integrate medical informatics to optimize the medication-use process.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Pharm.D. or equivalent graduate degree in Pharmacy (required)

Licensure/Certification:

  • Active pharmacist licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state within 3 months of starting the program (required)

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills to assess and apply patient-specific data in therapeutic decisions

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with patients and health care professionals

  • Comprehensive understanding of hospital and pharmacy operations, medication storage and dispensing, and clinical pharmacotherapy
