Position Title: Pharmacy Resident – PGY1
Schedule: Full-Time
Shift: Variable
Department: Pharmacy Practice Residency (Cost Center 5108)
Weekly Hours: 40
Position Summary
As a Pharmacy Resident, you will rotate through all major areas of the pharmacy, fulfilling the requirements of the PGY1 residency program by completing the objectives for each assigned rotation. You will also participate in projects, including at least one major residency project to be presented at a national pharmacy practitioner conference.
In this role, you will function as a licensed pharmacist, delivering safe and effective medication therapy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and educating healthcare staff and patients on appropriate medication use. Staffing duties related to your residency rotation will be required. You will play a vital role on the healthcare team, upholding Bronson’s mission of safe and optimal medication use.
Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree required

Minimum of 1,000 hours of internship experience under a licensed preceptor

Must be licensed (or license-eligible) as a pharmacist in the State of Michigan to ensure a minimum of 9 months of full practice experience during the residency

Must obtain a Michigan Controlled Substance license within the licensing timeframe
-
Pharmacist Intern License required until full pharmacist licensure is obtained
-
ACLS certification required within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout the residency

Proficiency in basic word processing and pharmacy software
Physical & Mental Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs)

May require physical movement and minor strenuous activity

Mentally and visually demanding role more than 90% of the time
Responsibilities
-
Interpret, verify, and dispense medications according to prescriptions
-
Evaluate patient profiles for allergies, interactions, and appropriateness of therapy
-
Educate patients and healthcare providers on medication use, side effects, and precautions
-
Prepare and oversee IV medications, including specialized compounds like TPNs, chemotherapy agents, and analgesics

Supervise and verify the work of pharmacy technicians

Ensure accurate inventory and restocking of unit medications

Participate in rounds, pharmacokinetic evaluations, drug utilization reviews, and quality improvement initiatives

Maintain compliance with legal and regulatory documentation and procedures

Active participation in special projects, professional development, and continued education is required

Residents contribute to department operations, including ordering, restocking, and resolving medication-related issues
