Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapist to join our dynamic team at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating patients, developing individualized care plans, administering evidence-based treatments, and overseeing care delivered by licensed Physical Therapy Assistants. You will adhere to the professional standards set forth by Canton-Potsdam Hospital, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and the New York State Office of Professions.

This role supports care across various departments and may require schedule flexibility, including participation in weekend rotations. You will play a vital role in helping patients regain function, manage pain, and improve overall mobility and quality of life.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital is a welcoming, not-for-profit community healthcare facility licensed for 94 beds. We are proud to provide exceptional, patient-centered healthcare to the communities we serve. Our hospital offers a broad range of services, including emergency medicine, acute care, hospitalist medicine, and critical care. Additionally, we deliver outpatient care throughout multiple locations in the North Country—including Brasher Falls, Canton, Colton, Gouverneur, Massena, Norfolk, and Potsdam.


Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy

Preferred:

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Ph.D. in Physical Therapy

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current New York State licensure as a Physical Therapist (or eligibility for licensure)


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to develop patient-centered treatment and home exercise programs.

  • Administer therapy sessions using a variety of therapeutic techniques and modalities to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.

  • Continuously monitor and document patient progress, modifying treatment plans as needed to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Educate patients and caregivers in therapeutic techniques and self-management strategies.

  • Provide oversight and direction to Physical Therapy Assistants to ensure safe and effective care delivery.

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to coordinate and enhance patient care.

  • Contribute to ongoing departmental training and professional development initiatives.

  • Complete documentation and discharge planning to support continuity of care.


Physical Requirements

  • Medium Work: Must be able to exert 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.

  • Frequent standing, walking, squatting, and other physical activities required.
