Job Summary

The Columbia VA Health Care System is seeking a licensed Physical Therapist (GS-12) to provide evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services for adult and geriatric patients. This role involves independent clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care in a complex outpatient setting.

Duties

  • Administer physical therapy programs for adult and geriatric patients.

  • Plan and carry out treatment where therapeutic objectives are complex.

  • Conduct evaluations, interpret findings, and establish diagnoses within PT scope.

  • Develop, modify, and implement patient treatment plans and education programs.

  • Monitor patient progress and adapt interventions as needed.

  • Communicate with patients, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary team.

  • Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants and PT students.

  • Employ innovative motivational techniques and adapt equipment/procedures.

  • Maintain timely written and verbal communication with the care team.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship and English proficiency required.

  • Unrestricted license to practice Physical Therapy in a U.S. state/territory/D.C.

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in PT + 5 years experience, OR

    • Master’s degree in PT + 2 years experience, OR

    • Doctorate in PT (DPT).

  • Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited PT program.

  • Must pass drug screening, background investigation, onboarding, and seasonal flu vaccination requirements.

  • Physical ability to lift, push, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach.

Qualifications (GS-12)

  • One year of experience at the GS-11 level.

  • Demonstrated skills in:

    • Independent evaluation and treatment (Direct Access).

    • Complex examinations across musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary systems.

    • Interpreting findings, setting goals, and determining prognosis.

    • Establishing diagnoses and identifying appropriate interventions.

    • Supervising PT Assistants and students.

Preferred Experience: Power mobility assessments, pelvic health, orthopedic cases, and treatment of neurological/vestibular diagnoses.
