Physical Therapist Opportunity – Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (Greenport, NY)

Join Stony Brook Medicine at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, a 70-bed acute care facility committed to providing essential healthcare to the North Fork and Shelter Island communities. As a Physical Therapist, you will develop and implement rehabilitation programs to help patients regain physical function and manage pain following accidents or surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with movement and functional limitations.
  • Develop and implement individualized and group treatment plans based on APTA principles.
  • Utilize physical activity, reflexology, massage, and musculoskeletal manipulation techniques.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Supervise physical therapist assistants, rehabilitation aides, and volunteers.
  • Provide annual staff in-service education as assigned.
  • Provide holiday coverage in the acute care setting.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students as assigned.

Experience:

  • Experience with diverse patient age groups and injuries.
  • One (1) year of acute care experience preferred.
  • Strong skills in administering a wide range of physical therapy techniques.
  • Experience directing treatments given by support staff.
  • Two (2) years of outpatient adult PT experience.
  • Three (3) years of adult orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an approved program (Doctoral degree preferred).
  • Licensed New York State Physical Therapist.
  • CPR/BLS and AED certification.
  • Ability to create plans involving stretching, strengthening, exercises, and physical manipulation.
  • Ability to educate and motivate patients and families.
  • Ability to track progress and report to patients and families.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform maximum assist transfers, maneuver equipment, demonstrate exercises and ambulation, perform manual muscle testing and range of motion. Requires compassion, attention to detail, dexterity, interpersonal skills, and stamina.
