Department: Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for designing and implementing rehabilitation programs aimed at helping patients regain higher levels of physical function following surgery or injury. The PT assists patients in managing or reducing pain through a combination of physical activities, reflexology, massage, and musculoskeletal manipulation. The PT evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with movement or functional impairments that affect their daily lives. Treatment plans are developed and applied based on guidelines from the American Physical Therapy Association, tailored for both individual and group sessions.

Experience:

  • Experience treating a broad range of patient age groups and injury types.

  • One (1) year of acute care experience preferred.

  • Proven skills in applying various physical therapy techniques.

  • Experience supervising and directing aides, technicians, and assistants.

  • Two (2) years of outpatient adult physical therapy experience.

  • Three (3) years of adult orthopedic experience preferred.

  • Orthopedic clinical specialist certification preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in physical therapy from an accredited program required.

  • Doctoral degree in physical therapy preferred.

  • Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of New York.

  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) required.

  • Ability to develop treatment plans incorporating stretching, strengthening, exercises, and physical manipulation to aid recovery.

  • Strong skills in educating and motivating patients and their families throughout therapy.

  • Ability to monitor and report patient progress effectively.

Compensation:
The starting salary range will reflect the candidate’s relevant experience. The provided range represents Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at posting time. Total compensation includes more than just salary.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a physical exam and medical clearance by Employee Health Services.

  • Electronic reference checks from at least three professional references.

  • Successful completion of a 4-panel drug screen.

  • Compliance with regulatory pre-employment screenings.

  • Submission of valid New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
