Physical Therapist – Rehabilitation Services
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)
Position Summary:
This role is an integral part of the Rehabilitation Services team, providing skilled physical therapy care to patients with a wide range of conditions including musculoskeletal disorders, neurological impairments, pain management needs, and oncology-related challenges. Services include therapeutic exercises, gait training, manual therapy, biofeedback, patient and family education, and physical modalities to help improve strength, mobility, endurance, and flexibility, while also working to reduce pain.
Therapists in this role are also expected to supervise interns, participate in departmental educational initiatives, and contribute to research efforts. All clinical documentation and productivity must align with hospital standards and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Safe and Therapeutic Environment

Ensure patient and staff safety at all times

Practice sound body mechanics and patient-handling techniques

Support a clean, safe, and organized clinical space by following infection control, fire, electrical safety, and disaster policies

Promote a culture of respect and compassion toward patients, families, and coworkers
Evaluation and Treatment
-
Conduct individualized physical therapy evaluations after thorough chart reviews
-
Identify rehabilitation needs and collaborate with other therapy disciplines when appropriate
-
Set measurable and functional treatment goals in partnership with the patient and their family
-
Design and implement personalized therapy plans using a variety of modalities and interventions
-
Provide education and home exercise programs to support continued progress beyond discharge
-
Modify treatment based on patient response and progress toward goals

Delegate and supervise care provided by exercise specialists
-
Complete all documentation, billing, and charting in compliance with OHSU, OPTA, CMS, and other third-party regulations within established timeframes (e.g., within 3 days)
Program Development & Professional Competency

Contribute to the development of care programs specific to your specialty area

Demonstrate safe and skilled use of therapeutic equipment

Assist patients with therapy scheduling, including communication through Cadence and MyChart
-
Handle Medicare certifications/recertifications and coordinate provider sign-offs

Ensure patients are equipped with appropriate home programs upon discharge

Meet departmental productivity expectations
Required Qualifications
-
Licensed as a Physical Therapist by the Oregon Physical Therapist Licensing Board, OR
-
Graduated from an accredited PT program and eligible for licensure or temporary permit in Oregon
-
Must hold at least a temporary permit at the time of hire
Preferred Qualifications
-
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
-
Recent experience in an ambulatory care setting or intensive clinical rotation
-
Board certification in a specialty area (Orthopedic, Sports, Neuro, Oncology, Geriatrics, etc.)

Lymphedema certification (e.g., LANA) or similar credential is preferred
