Certified Professional Medical Coder Responsibilities
As a Certified Professional Medical Coder, you’ll analyze clinical documentation to assign the correct ICD-10-CDM, HCPCS, and CPT codes while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

Review and code provider documentation for office and hospital procedures.

Ensure accurate charge capture and compliance with coding guidelines.

Communicate with physicians to provide education and feedback on documentation practices.

Assign and sequence appropriate procedure and diagnosis codes using current standards.

Manage coding-related edit work queues and resolve discrepancies.

Conduct documentation audits, prepare written reports, and present findings to leadership.

Certified Professional Medical Coder Qualifications
To qualify as a Certified Professional Medical Coder, candidates must meet the following education, certification, and experience requirements:
Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential (required at time of hire).

Minimum of 3 years of physician coding experience.
