UFJPI is hiring an experienced Certified Professional Medical Coder to ensure accurate and compliant coding for physician documentation. As a Certified Professional Medical Coder, you’ll review clinical records, assign appropriate diagnoses and procedure codes, and educate providers on proper documentation and billing practices. This role combines coding accuracy, compliance expertise, and provider training—helping maintain efficient billing operations and optimize reimbursement. Certified Professional Medical Coder Responsibilities

As a Certified Professional Medical Coder, you’ll analyze clinical documentation to assign the correct ICD-10-CDM, HCPCS, and CPT codes while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and code provider documentation for office and hospital procedures.

  • Ensure accurate charge capture and compliance with coding guidelines.

  • Communicate with physicians to provide education and feedback on documentation practices.

  • Assign and sequence appropriate procedure and diagnosis codes using current standards.

  • Manage coding-related edit work queues and resolve discrepancies.

  • Conduct documentation audits, prepare written reports, and present findings to leadership.

  • Maintain compliance standards and report issues as required.

  • Identify missing documentation or charges to prevent billing delays.

  • Perform coding tasks with independence, accuracy, and timeliness.


Certified Professional Medical Coder Qualifications

To qualify as a Certified Professional Medical Coder, candidates must meet the following education, certification, and experience requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential (required at time of hire).

  • Minimum of 3 years of physician coding experience.

  • Proficiency in medical billing systems and medical management software.

  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CDM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

  • Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in medical billing.
