Psychiatrist – Mental Health Service Line (Multiple Settings)
Summary:
Join the VA as a Psychiatrist and provide crucial mental health care to Veterans across various settings (inpatient, outpatient, residential substance abuse/PTSD programs, emergency, medical-surgical consults, geriatrics). This role involves clinical work, teaching psychiatry residents and other healthcare trainees, and potential leadership as a Section Chief. Eligible for student loan repayment (EDRP) up to $200,000. Duties May Include:
- Clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- On-call rotation (including weekends/holidays).
- Supervision of psychiatry staff and advanced clinical providers (for Section Chief roles).
- Clinical coverage in inpatient and outpatient units.
- Administrative tasks (e.g., leave approval, committee participation, managing discipline-specific issues for Section Chiefs).
- Collaboration with other mental health supervisors.
- Acting in the absence of the Mental Health Service Chief (for Section Chief roles).
- Teaching and mentoring residents and other healthcare professionals.
- Participation in quality improvement and potential research activities.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and promoting teamwork.

Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (exceptions may apply).
- Pre-employment drug screening.
- Selective Service registration (males born after 12/31/1959).
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Completion of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an approved institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
- Completion of an approved residency program leading to board eligibility/certification.
- Board Certification by ABMS or AOA.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical.
