About the Work
San Diego County spans 4,000+ square miles, divided into 4 regions and 17 zones for facilities maintenance. Each zone has a Building Maintenance Supervisor leading a team of facilities professionals and contract vendors.
Plumbers independently perform a full range of journey-level plumbing tasks in detention facilities, hospitals, and office buildings.

Interview & Hiring Timeline

October 2025 – Interviews, job offers, and background process begin

Pre-employment Medical Screening – 3 days after background clearance

Start Date – Following medical clearance or mutually agreed date
Minimum Qualifications
-
Four years of varied plumbing experience, including one year at journey-level; OR
-
Two years of experience as a Plumber Assistant with the County of San Diego
Working Conditions
-
Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions
-
Frequent exposure to moisture, electrical hazards, fumes, cramped spaces, asbestos, lead
-
Must wear protective breathing apparatus

Subject to emergency overtime and call-backs
