Plumber Apprentice

Job Summary

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is hiring a Plumber Apprentice to assist in the maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing systems and related components. This position supports day-to-day operations and emergency needs under the guidance of a senior plumber.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing systems

  • Work with various materials: PVC, GI, cast iron, and heating/cooling systems

  • Support installation and troubleshooting of domestic and sewage pipe systems

  • Complete work orders as prioritized by supervisors

  • Be available for occasional emergency or weekend work

  • Participate in team efforts to support campus operations

Required Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Plumbing Trades Program

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record

  • Experience or training in preventive maintenance

  • Basic to intermediate plumbing knowledge and mechanical skills

  • Familiarity with plumbing tools (e.g., pipe threading machines, torches, drills, rodding machines)

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs regularly and work in confined spaces

  • Comfortable reading technical drawings and following safety protocols

  • Proficient in English and capable of using Microsoft Office tools and work order systems

  • Good communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program

Additional Information

  • This position is not eligible for telework

  • Applicants must reside in Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C.
